Mercedes-Benz GLA: design

Visually, this second-generation GLA SUV looks very different from the model it replaces. The exterior movement style has smoother and smoother lines than the old model but still has a solid design – with black clothing around the jeep. Overall, the new GLA definitely looks bigger and bigger than the previous generation’s car. However, it’s not just visually larger, as the new GLA is 104 mm taller and the wheelbase is 30 mm longer than the previous generation. This results in more interior space, especially in the rear – something the previous model didn’t have.

The AMG variant has a number of design cues that distinguish it from the standard version. These include a Panamericana-style grill with protruding vertical spoilers, a new roof spoiler with larger wheels, and larger exhaust pipes. It also has a GLA 35 and an AMG shield at the rear.

Mercedes-Benz GLA: features

The new GLA is fairly well equipped, especially at the top, with features such as a 10.25-inch digital gauge, a 10.25-inch MBUX touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and voice prompts “Hey Mercedes », a Wireless charger, front seats with the electric memory system, 64-color ambient lighting and a large sunroof.

Mercedes-Benz GLA: engine and gearbox

Under the hood, the standard GLA is available with both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol engine is a 1.3-liter turbo four-cylinder engine with 163 horsepower. and 250 Nm. It comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and is only offered fully front-wheel drive.

The diesel equipment available with the new GLA is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine that produces 190 horsepower. and 400 Nm. It comes with 8-speed automatic transmission, with a dual-clutch clutch, and can be mounted in both the transverse position and the Mercedes 4Matic all-wheel drive.

Finally, we have the AMG GLA 35 4Matic, which has a performance with a 2.0-liter working capacity which produces 306 horsepower and 400 Nm. Power is transferred to all four wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Mercedes offers a new GLA with an 8-year warranty on the engine and delivery, as well as a full three-year warranty on board.

Mercedes-Benz GLA: competition check

In our market, the new Mercedes GLA acquires similar BMW X1, Volvo XC40, and Mini Countryman. With the introduction of the second-generation Audi Q3, the competition is intensifying.

Should You Buy This?

The new GLA is clearly a big step forward from the previous car. More spacious and comfortable inside, beautifully built and well equipped, it has everything it takes to be the best compact luxury SUV in its class. The question is, should you go for this petrol, which will probably cost between 43 and 45 lakh, or a slightly more expensive diesel? The petrol is doing well in the city, the journey is a bit more comfortable and lighter interiors also give the cabin a lift. So the GLA 200 has a lot to do. But if we had to choose between petrol and diesel, we would go for the latter. It’s a more rounded package that delivers stronger performance and delivers it effortlessly.
